Blog Entry #1

I don't have an personal cultural background in Italy but I do think it's a fascinating country. I'm interested in learning more about the culture because I know most of what little knowledge I have stems from the romanticized ideas of the country.

I haven't learned much about Italy in the past. Some of my views of the country certainly come from some of the films I've seen already. Even then I haven't really seen that many Italian films, not that I can recall. I've only seen two of the films that we're going to watch this semester, Roman Holiday and Rome Open City. I'm certainly interested in learning more about more realistic views of the country and it's culture.

  1. So homework was to comment on peoples blogs, and since I have a blogspot and you have a blogspot, I figured that I comment on yours. So good job with your first blogpost! I'm looking forward to learning more about Italy too!

  2. I am the same as you - I don't have a personal background with Italian culture, but I think it is also a fascinating country. Roman Holiday was a great movie, however I have not seen any of the other films we are going to watch in class.

  3. If you find more about Italy that you like in this class, you should think about trying to learn the language. This is my 4th semester of Italian and it's very fun. It teaches me more about Italy every class.

  4. Yes, there is a romanticized view of Italy, partially true, partially untrue. You will learn many unexpected things in this course! Enjoy the blog.

  5. There is a sort of ignorant bliss we come to think of when thinking that Italy is a country that is highly romantic in nature. But hopefully through films that we'll watch this semester that are like Rome: Open City I too hope to get a most realistic view of the country.
